Welcome to the Old Dalby Singers' website.

We are sorry to announce that the singers have disbanded, November 2023.

The Choir performed a

Christmas Caroling Concert

at GRIMSTON

The Old Dalby Singers sang a selection of festive choral music from the 15th Century to the 20th at

St John the Baptist

GRIMSTON, on  the 9th December

The concert was thoroughly enjoyed and part of the proceeds were donated to Grimston Church.

A visit to

Belvoir Castle

The Old Dalby Singers brought a varied selection of British music to Old Dalby for their Very British Autumn Concert. It included music from Purcell to Goodall, R Vaughn Williams to King Henry VIII, with solo guests. The audience reported they thoroughly enjoyed the ambitious set and many were astonished by the quality offered by a relatively small choir.  We intended to give the organ a work out, unfortunately a leak had put the organ out of action for a while but there was still be prestigious keyboard recital from Paul Hayward using an emulator.

As a follow up a  portion of the Old Dalby Singers visited Belvoir Castle today, November 26th and entertained the visitors. We had a chance to sing "A King's Ballad", attributed to Henry the Eighth, in front of the famous portrait of the great man himself. A first, we think, at least for a very long time.

Here is the video.

The 2022 Christmas Warm Up took place at the Old Dalby primary school in 2022 as there was an issue with the heating at the church. The singers, led by Paul Hayward, were joined by the scouts, the school choir and a video of the pre school children. Rachel, Penny and others led the audience in singing and the event was well enjoyed by all who attended.

The warm-up in 2019 seems so long ago now but, again the Old Dalby Singers were joined by the School Choir, the 1st Old Dalby Scouts and the Beavers who performed so well, along with local guests, for a fun filled evening. Soloists Evie started proceedings with the first verse of Silent Night and "White Christmas" was later sung by Carys. There was a surprising visit by The Snowman ™ walking in the air.

This Christmas Warm Up was presented by the singers’ musical director Deborah Davies with budding conductors/accompanists Harry Lee Payton and Thomas Corden. Harry also made a shock appearance playing saxophone break to Russ and Pennys’, “Rocking Around the Christmas Tree. “ Many of the audience retired to the Village Hall afterwards for refreshments jamming the hall with more people than it has seen for years! And, it sadly turned out, for the last time for two years. A great and enjoyable community event.

"What a great evening!  Everyone was smiling."

OLD DALBY SINGERS

WHO WE ARE

The Old Dalby Singers were a group of people who enjoyed rehearsing, learning and performing.  The singers typically produced two concerts a year to entertain with a fresh and varied repertoire each time. The choir was SATB and keen to encourage young and old alike to enjoy the huge health and social benefits of singing.
They aimed is to nurture young people and offer an opportunity to learn to conduct or accompany the singers. Also to provide opportunity in our repetoir for instrumentalists  to perform .
The village of Old Dalby is in Leicestershire near Melton Mowbray. The  singers hailed from all over the
Vale of Belvoir, Melton Mowbray and many miles around.

COME AND VISIT

Old Dalby is seven miles north of Melton Mowbray, the food capital of England. Set below the edge of the Wolds the village site in the Vale of Belvoir and is a delightful rural settlement with and active and vibrant community.
The singers have members from Melton Mowbray, Broughton, Hose, Scalford and other parts of the Vale. You don't have to be "Old" to join the singers. We encourage all ages to join.
Singing is amazingly helpful in maintaining a healthy body and alert mind. There are many disciplines involved which at first might seem daunting. Nevertheless I do not know anyone who, once they have taken the first steps, have regretted joining a choir. It helps keep you fit and healthy, alert and happy whilst teaching you skills you thought you didn't have.!

JOIN US

The singers were always looking for members.  They rehearsed most Tuesday evenings and are a very friendly bunch. They were not trained professionals but had some talented members.

The Future........

Sadly there is no future for the Old Dalby Singers but there is always room for singing.
This site is paid up until January 2024 after which it will be withdrawn.
